조은후의 가상 분신 zozo는 스스로를 ‘내면 수련 아티스트’라고 칭한다. zozo는 ‘불행 감별사’의 도래 이후에는 이 세계의 질서가 ‘불행레벨’을 토대로 재편될 거라고 주장하며 사이비-유사과학-정치인 사이의 경계를 헤매는 사람이다.
zozo가 뿌리는 명함과 브로셔는 실제로 지하철에서 받곤 했던, 정보값이라고는 전혀 존재하지 않는 명함과 사이비 전단에서 영감을 받아 제작되었었다. zozo는 가정 안팎에서 수많은 불행서사를 겪었고, 신경다양성과 정신질환을 통해 유사한 광기를 내면화했다. “얼마나 답답하면 저럴까?” 내가 알고 있는 사실이 남들에게는 전혀 중요하지 않거나, 아무도 이 사실을 모른다는 것이 너무 절망스러운 나머지 거리로 나와 사람들에게 전혀 먹혀들지 않는 무의미한 전단들을 나눠주는 것밖에는 할 수 있는 일이 없다는 것. “궁지에 몰렸다”는 표현은 이런 때 사용하는 것일 테다.

Eunhoo Jo’s virtual alter ego, zozo, calls themselves an ‘Inner Discipline Artist’ and proclaims that, following the advent of the ‘Misery Judge’, the order of the world will be reorganized according to levels of misery. zozo exists in an ambiguous space—somewhere between cult leader, pseudoscientist, and politician.
The business cards and brochures distributed by zozo are inspired by the bizarre, nonsensical cards and cult flyers often handed out in subways. Having endured countless narratives of misery both inside and outside the home, zozo has internalized a similar madness, shaped by a family history of neurodiversity and mental illness. They describe the despair of realizing that what they know is of no importance to others—or that no one else even perceives it—leaving them no choice but to take to the streets, distributing meaningless flyers that nobody will accept. The word cornered perfectly captures this state of helplessness.
