zozo는 가명 아래 약 1년여간 그의 일기를 인터넷상에 연재했다. 실제로 꽤 많은 사람들이 zozo의 일기를 봤다. zozo의 일기 중 가장 흥미를 많이 끌었던 것은 단연 사랑을 추구하는 이야기들이다.
zozo는 실화를 바탕으로 일기를 쓰지만, 아웃팅 우려가 있어 모든 것이 가공으로 만들어진 소설인 척한다. 모든 사람들의 이름과 지명은 가짜다. 이렇게 가려도 사실은 명료히 보이기 마련이다. 모든 대명사들을 허공으로 튕겨내면 마침내 서사들이 내보이는 유일한 지점, 모여드는 사실은 zozo의 소수자성일 뿐이다. 그럼에도 이 소수자성은 많은 사람들의 비뚤어진 흥미를 자극한다. 정말 실제로 있었던, zozo에게는 사소한 일상이었음에도 불구하고.
짧은 기간 동안 zozo라는 자아를 가리는 어떠한 장애물도 없었기에, 인터넷 세상에서 zozo의 세계와 그로 인한 영향력은 커져만 갈 것 같았다. 하지만 헤테로 남성의 스토킹 대상이 되면서, 신고와 검열의 대상이 되면서 zozo의 좁은 세상은 1년만에 무너졌다. 익명의 힘을 빌어 많은 사람들과 마주했던 지난날처럼 zozo는 가삼로지을이라는 공간을 통해 퀴어들 혹은 비-퀴어들과 마주하고 싶다.
zozo의 일기는 가짜와 진짜의 경계를 두드리는 소설이자 자서전이 된다. 퀴어와 비-퀴어, 역사와 비-역사, 가짜와 진짜. 이것들은 사실 분명히 구분되지 않고 우리 삶에 혼재되어 있는 것들임을 관람자들은 zozo의 세계 속에서 마침내 깨달을 것이다.
zozo, a queer woman, published her diary online under this pseudonym for about a year. A considerable number of people read zozo’s diary. The most captivating parts of her diary were, without a doubt, the stories of her pursuit of love.
Although zozo’s diary is based on real experiences, the risk of outing compelled her to present everything as fiction. Every name and place mentioned is fabricated. Yet, even when obscured, the truth remains unmistakably visible. When all pronouns are cast into the void, the singular reality that emerges from the narrative is zozo’s minority. And yet, this identity provokes twisted fascination among many people, even when describing mundane moments of zozo’s everyday life.
For a brief time, there were no barriers concealing zozo’s selfhood. Her world and the influence she wielded within the online sphere seemed boundless. However, when she became the target of harassment by heterosexual men, subjected to reporting and censorship, zozo’s narrow world crumbled within a year. Much like the days when she met many people under the power of anonymity, zozo hopes to face queers and non-queers alike through the space of Gasamrojieul.
zozo’s diary becomes a novel and an autobiography that tests the boundary between fiction and reality. Queer and non-queer, history and non-history, truth and fabrication—these are not clearly divided but are interwoven throughout our lives. Through zozo’s world, viewers will come to realize this complex reality.
